Mother Nature – New Album now available!

We recently wrote a blog post to announce the completion of the mixing work for the new Mother Nature album. A month later, we are finally thrilled to present the album "Double Deal", a work co-produced by our association StudioGaudio.

We spent unforgettable moments with our friends. The work, in its entirety, kept us busy for a full two years, demonstrating the passion and dedication towards this work.
For the first time since we became an association, we felt part of the band: we united and as a team we brought this work to life and we are truly proudof it.

The album was not simple to mix as the tracks have very different characteristics from one another: some of them feature a wall of guitars and blending them was quite complex. Nothing impossible with a touch like that of Luca Nappo, a unique, refined, decisive, virtuoso and polite guitarist. We freely admit that when he proposed his riffs we were often enthusiastic, but sometimes also worried, as every element must be enhanced in the mixing context and balancing everything is not always easy.

Moving on to purely technical details, we can reveal that the entire guitar set was summed through the vintage Tascam M600 console, we assigned multiple PGM buses for each type of guitar and applied analog compression on SSL, G-comp and UA1176to them. We made use of the console’s summing amp and its very musical EQs in various ways, making corrections directly on the DAW track. The FX were also processed in the analog domain, every PGM bus had its own external analog unit. The alternation of processors and parameters allowed us to obtain well-balanced and realistic spaces: the Lexicon PCM, the Yamaha SPX2000 and the TC Electronics played a key role in this.

The rhythms all bear the touch of our great Salvatore Buzzerio, with determination, brought their distinct style to both the overall blend and the triggering. Working alongside Francesco Gaudio, the EQs, compressors, and ultimately the effects were refined—once again, using strictly analog gear. The ‘drums’ underwent a hybrid digital-analogprocess: a necessary stylistic choice to make the section modern and punchy. On the electric bass , we truly had fun: we alternated between multiple preamplifiers, moving effortlessly from the Neve to the Universal Audio. Most of the compression is analog, though on a few tracks an ITB solution proved more effective.

In short, every track has its own process! We moved between DBX, LA2A, and 1176 Rev B units, giving each performance a unique character. On most tracks, the timbre of the Rupert Neve equalizer is clearly perceptible, while on the rest we used an analog (Tascam EQ) and digital hybrid.
The vocals matched the overall complexity of the other instruments. Compression was strictly handled by ‘1176’ units. We used a variety of microphones, switching between the AKG SolidTube tube mic, the Shure SM7, and the Neumann TLM.
The creative solutions for the vocal section were countless, thanks in no small part to the expert contribution of Wladimiro Rizzi: we will always remember his endless notes with precise instructions on how to automate parts and much more.
Ultimately, the band gave us a tremendous amount of freedom. They never imposed strict demands; instead, we worked together to find a compromise between our vision and theirs.

Once the mix was finished, we dove headfirst into the Mastering phase. We created two versions in the studio to establish a baseline and allow for future comparisons. Afterward, we entrusted the final master to the great Marc Urselli , who brought that Modern American Style that only he can deliver. Leaving no detail to chance, we achieved a sound truly worthy of our Mother Nature.

With a touch of nostalgia, we bid farewell to this experience, proud of the work we’ve done and happy to have formed such a unique team. But above all, we are grateful for having deepened our friendship with such exceptional people as the members of Mother Nature: Wladimiro Rizzi, Luca Nappo, Francesco Amati, and Francesco Candelli.
We are eager to hear your thoughts on this wonderful hard rock bluesrelease. Please leave a comment in the section at the bottom of the article!
